A visual-effects treat just with his retro wardrobe, the fleet-footed guy saves dozens from a burning school and even has the time for Tab during a superbly crafted sequence set to Eurythmics. Yet Evan Peters’ speedster Quicksilver - the highlight of “Future Past” - gets ample time to strut his super-stuff. (Hint: The role is played by an A-lister with impressive sets of claws and mutton chops.)Įven at two and a half hours, there’s not enough screen time for the jam-packed ensemble, so Apocalypse’s minions Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Angel (Ben Hardy) unfortunately get shorted. The symbolic civil-rights struggle that marked the other movies is mostly thrown to the side, and instead there’s much more attention paid to fan service, such as figuring out ways to make Xavier his well-known bald self or get Weapon X into the picture.
